About Me

Amalia Verbeek

I'm Amalia Verbeek

I'm a Specialist Wellness Counsellor registered with the ASCHP (SWC25/16003), holding a Diploma in Art Therapy and a Master's in Music Therapy from the University of Pretoria. Since 2006, I've worked with adults, children, families, and schools, supporting emotional, psychological, and physical challenges through creative, trauma-informed approaches.

My practice is built on professionalism, dignity, and respect. I offer therapy in both English and Afrikaans, and sessions are always tailored to each client's unique needs.

While my approach is faith-based and guided by God's Word, I fully respect and support clients who prefer a non-faith-based process. Each journey is shaped around what feels authentic and safe for you.

My Expertise

  • Music Therapy: Using the universal language of music to regulate emotions and foster resilience
  • Art Counselling: Guiding clients through expressive processes that unlock healing
  • Wellness Counselling: Practical support for anxiety, grief, trauma, and relationships
  • Group Facilitation: Creative workshops for youth, families, and communities
  • Therapeutic Approaches: CBT, Narrative Therapy, Transactional Analysis, and more

Your Client Journey

Healing is a process, not a quick fix. Each step is designed to foster growth, resilience, and transformation in a safe, creative space.

1

Reaching Out

Your journey begins with a simple conversation—by phone, email, or message. Share what's on your heart and ask questions about how therapy might support you.

2

First Connection

Together, we'll explore your needs and decide whether counselling, art therapy, music therapy, or group work feels right for you.

3

Safe Space

Your first session creates a welcoming, confidential environment. No art or music skills required—just a willingness to begin.

4

Assessment & Planning

Tailored sessions provide insight into emotional patterns, helping us shape a plan that feels authentic and empowering.

5

Growth & Renewal

Over time, you'll discover new resilience, healthier relationships, and a deeper sense of self-worth through practice and reflection.

6

Closing with Reflection

When the time comes to close, we do so thoughtfully. Reflect on progress, celebrate growth, and discuss ways to continue independently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be good at art or music to benefit from therapy?
Not at all. No artistic or musical skills are required—the focus is on expression, not performance. The creative process simply provides another way to explore emotions and experiences.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes. As a registered Specialist Wellness Counsellor with the ASCHP, I follow strict ethical guidelines. Everything shared in sessions is treated with respect and confidentiality. There are only a few legal exceptions where disclosure may be required—for example, if someone is at risk of harm or in cases involving child protection.
How does your Christian, Bible-based perspective shape therapy?
My practice is rooted in Biblical values of hope, compassion, and restoration. For clients who wish, I integrate faith-aligned encouragement alongside professional counselling. For those who prefer a non-faith-based process, therapy is equally respectful and supportive.
What kinds of issues can you help with?
I support clients facing stress, anxiety, and burnout; grief, trauma, and loss; relationship challenges and divorce; identity and self-worth struggles; emotional literacy and resilience building; and children and teens needing safe ways to express themselves.
Do you work with children and teens?
Yes. I offer individual sessions for children and teens, as well as group programs that address identity, peer pressure, and resilience in a safe, creative environment. Parents are welcome to be part of the process where appropriate.
Can I choose between in-person and online sessions?
Absolutely. I provide both face-to-face sessions in Robertson and the Langeberg region, and online sessions for clients who prefer remote support.
How do payments work?
Immediate payment is required after each session (cash or card). Fees are transparent and discussed upfront. Written reports, group sessions, and home visits are available at additional cost.
What if I need to cancel a session?
If you cannot attend, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance. Sessions not cancelled in time will be charged in full. Regular attendance is important for progress. If two consecutive sessions are missed without prior arrangement, therapy will be regarded as terminated.
